According to details which we received, at approximately 19.25hrs, Deabreu was riding his motorcycle with Maleen Mahadeo as the pillion rider when they slammed into the left rear door of a car.

That car HC 1408 which was driven by Sheik Hussien of 304 Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) allegedly made a sudden turn into the path of the motorcycle as the driver of the car attempted to make his way into the access road of Canal No.1.

The Police Constable and his pillion rider were flung from the motorcycle, causing him to sustain serious injuries while the woman received lacerations to her body. She was treated and sent away.

Sources who spoke with the News Room indicated that based on initial investigations, the police neither his pillion rider were wearing safety helmets at the time of the accident.

The motorcar and the motorcycle have been lodged with the police in West Demerara.

The investigations are ongoing and charges are likely to be laid shortly.
