The Rupununi Football Association (RFA) in collaboration with the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) will host a Referees Beginners Course at Lethem, Region 9, from May 12-14, 2017. This event is scheduled to have the participation of forty (40) persons, both male and female, from five villages as well as some from central Lethem and will be held from 10:00h – 17:00h daily.

This is the second course facilitated by the GFF for the RFA and will cover both classroom and field sessions, including the Laws Of The Game, filling match forms, report writing, the role and functions of referees as well as that of  the Fourth Official. It will be facilitated by Stanley Lancaster, Head of the GFF Refereeing Department.

Additionally, Lancaster said that an oversight referees’ body for the region will be installed and a Referee Development Officer appointed. “The initiative is part of the new structure for referee development across the country and aligns well with the new direction of football management as implemented by the Technical Department. This new structure will enable better development and management of referees. The Referee Development Officer (RDO) will be responsible for appointing and training referees as well as reporting to the department.”

A national roll-out of the new structure will be announced with a RDO appointed for each Member Association.
