Canecutter, son and nephew on the run for raping 12-year-old
The police in Berbice are hunting for a canecutter, his son and nephew who allegedly raped a 12-year-old relative.
According to information reaching the News Room, the 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 18-year-old stepbrother, her 22-year-old cousin and her 46-year-old stepfather between November 2016 and March 2017.
The matter was however only reported to the police on Sunday, May 15, 2017.
News Room was told that the victim resides with her mother who is employed as a cook, her stepfather, and two other siblings. It is alleged that she would usually visit the home of her stepbrother which is located in the same yard, to help with chores. It is during these visits that her stepbrother and her cousin would force themselves on her.
Being unable to deal with the abuse any longer, the 12-year-old confided in her aunt and related the entire story to her. The woman reported the matter to the Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA) on May 11, 2017.
The News Room was informed that after conducting their investigations the CCPA reported the matter to the police who visited the scene and escorted the victim to be examined by a doctor where she disclosed that she was also sexually assaulted by her stepfather.
Efforts thus far to arrest the three suspects were unsuccessful.
Investigations are ongoing.
