Mahaicony Farmer arrested for attempting to bribe police

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), a 36-year-old farmer was yesterday afternoon (Monday, May 29, 2017) arrested after he attempted to bribe officers to get his brother released from custody.

The Farmer of Champagne, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD) allegedly attempted to bribe two ranks stationed at the Mahaicony Police Station with $150,000.00.

The exhibits were lodged and the suspect would be arraigned before a Magistrate soon.

The sum was intended to secure the release of his brother Bishomit Rajkumar who is in custody to be escorted to the Georgetown Prison where he will commence a two-year sentence for Unlawful Wounding committed on Asif Alli of the same community.

Alli was charged in absentia on May 12, 2017.

He was arrested on the warrant yesterday (Monday, May 29, 2017) at 16:00hrs.
