Labourer remanded for killing pensioner for his money

A Corentyne labourer was remanded to prison for killing an 88-year-old man for his pension when he appeared in the Springlands Magistrate Court today (Tuesday June 06, 2017).

29-year-old Lincoln Odell of no fixed place of abode was not required to plead to charge when it was read to him by Magistrate, Rabindranauth Singh.

It is alleged that on June 03 at Hazel Street Corriverton, Berbice, he murdered 88-year-old Fitzherbert Grimes in the course of a robbery.

News Room had reported that Grimes died several hours after being admitted a patient at the Skeldon Public Hospital on Friday last (June 02, 2017) after he was taken there by the police, with a lacerated wound to his mouth and swollen eyes.

The investigation revealed that the suspect who is a frequent visitor of the victim, went to the victim’s home, shortly after 13:00 hrs on the day in question and minutes later, the victim was heard screaming. The police who were alerted responded promptly and caught the suspectas he was exiting the yard.

Odell later confessed to the crime.

After hearing the case, the magistrate refused bail.

Odell will return to court on June 19, 2017.
