Man dies after brawl with neighbour

The police in ‘C’ Division are investigating the death of Roy Beckles allegedly by a Mason, Troy Tash called “nineteen”.

The incident took place at around 18:30hrs last night (Monday, June 05, 2017) at ‘B’ field Sophia.

According to information reaching the News Room, Beckles’ wife, Emily Haynes was involved in an argument with the man who is his neighbour. Upon arriving home, Beckles allegedly attempted to intervene when the argument escalated.

It is alleged that the suspect then ran into his yard, armed himself with a cutlass and knife, and then advanced towards Beckles who by that time had also armed himself with a cutlass.

The men then got into a “faceoff” and on the street and the deceased fired several chops at the suspect.

It is alleged that Beckles’ cutlass then fell out of his hands and he attempted to flee the scene. However, he was pursued by the suspect who caught up with him, and dealt him one stab to the right shoulder. The chop caused him to fall onto the roadway and was later picked up by his wife and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died while receiving medical attention.

After the incident, the suspect fled the scene.

The police have since obtained statements from persons in the area and are trying to locate the suspect.
