Miner arrested with Cannabis in Mazaruni River

A 35-year-old miner was today (Wednesday, June 07, 2017) arrested with a quantity of Cannabis in the Mazaruni River.

According to information reaching News Room, at about 11:40 hours, a party of police from the  Bartica Police Station were on a river patrol in the Mazaruni River when they stopped a fuel boat which had one occupant identified as Derwin Grant, a miner of 44 Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown.

A search was conducted on Grant and his personal belongings.

It was during the search that a quantity of cannabis was found inside two speaker boxes.

He was told of the offence, cautioned and he admitted.

Grant was arrested and taken to the station where the Cannabis was weighed and amounted to 902 grams.

He is in custody pending charges.
