    Public Infrastructure employees remanded for cocaine possession

    Magistrate Sunil Scarce today (Friday, June 09, 2017) remanded two 20 year olds to jail for being in possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

    Aviskhar Rambarran of 93 Enmore North, East Coast Demerara (ECD) and Michael Sikhim of 81 Corbina Park, Annandale, ECD were remanded until June 26.

    They men appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate Court one day after they were found in possession of more than 250 grams of cocaine.

    The News Room has been informed that one of the men worked as an engineer and the other as a civil contractor with the Ministry of Public Infrastructure.

    The car in which the men were travelling was stopped and searched in the vicinity of Golden Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara (E.B.D.)at about 4 pm on Thursday, following information received by the police.

    The substance was discovered in the glove compartment of the vehicle.

    Rambarran who was the driver of the vehicle, reportedly told detectives that the cocaine was given to him by someone who goes by the name of “John”.

    He further stated that he was asked by the individual to sell the drugs, but he has no personal information about the young man and where he lives.
