17 year old Seermattie Seudatt succumbed to her injuries at about 09:30 hours this morning (Monday, June 12, 2017) in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).
According to information reaching News Room, the teen of Lot 145 forth street, Foulis Village, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was being towed on a pedal cycle by her 18 year old relative, Bisson Seudatt on Friday (June 09, 2017) when the two were involved in an accident.
Initial investigation states that a minibus, BTT 4265, owned and driven by 55 year old Bryan Pereira of Lot 81 Douglas Street, Golden Grove E.C.D., was proceeding east along the northern side of Foulis public Road when it collided with the pedal cycle which was crossing the road.
The minibus was allegedly travelling at 65km/h.
Pereira related that at about 16:45hrs on Friday while driving, he observed a mini Bus parked on the northern shoulder of the road. As he was passing the minibus, he said he suddenly saw the pedal cyclist with the deceased going across the road into his path.
Upon seeing the pedal cyclist, the man said he swerved south and applied brakes, but despite his best efforts, the left front of the bus collided with the right middle portion of the pedal cyclist.
As a result of the collision, the pedal cyclist and the person which was being towed received injuries.
They were taken to the Georgetown Hospital where the pedal cyclist was treated for minor injuries and sent away.
However, Seermattie was admitted to the ICU in an unconscious condition where she spent the weekend before succumbing to her injuries on Monday.
Pereira was arrested, and a breathalyser test was conducted which came up negative. However, he remains in custody assisting with the investigation.
