    Berbice off-spinner Karran Arajpaul wrote his name in the record books on Wednesday (June 14), snaring nine wickets in the second innings against Demerara on day two of the third and final round of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Hand-in-Hand Under-19, Inter-county Three-day competition.

    The Albion player picked up 9-22 off 21 overs as Demerara stumbled to 95-9 off 48 overs in their second innings, an overall lead of 119 with one wicket in hand and one day to go. Playing at Everest, Demerara gained a first innings lead of 24 after dismissing Berbice for 166 in response to 190.

    SUMMARY: Demerara 190 and 95-9 (Karran Arajpaul 9-22) versus Berbice 166 (Kevin Sinclair 97, Sylus Tyndall 27, Keshram Seyhodan 6-67, Bhaskar Yadram 3-16).

    At the Police ground, the Select Under-17 made 227 all out with Kevlon Anderson and Reyaz Khan top scoring with 101 and 33 runs respectively, while Pradesh Balkishun (24) and Nigel Deodat (22) also added to the total.  

    Bowling for Essequibo, Mahendra Persaud made 3-34, Joel Fortune 3-42 and Lesley Allen 2-27. Essequibo, in their reply, closed on 100-9, struggling against the Under-17 bowlers. 

    Stephan Campbell has so far topscored with 34, while Mahendra Persaud has made 21. Left-arm spinner Ashmead Nedd has bowled 33 overs and taken 4-29 and Kevlon Anderson 3-5. The competition will wrap up on Thursday (June 15) with play getting underway at 10:00h at both venues.
