The evidence of a post-mortem suggests that 8-year-old Isaiah Smart of ‘E’ Field Sophia, whose body was discovered in a drain on Tuesday night (June 20, 2017), was murdered
A Post mortem conducted this morning (Friday, June 23, 2017) by government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, found that the former student of F.E. Pollard Primary School suffered asphyxiation due to Bronchoaspiration, compounded by compression injuries to the neck.
Examination was also done to find out if the lad was sodomised and that was proven negative.
The remains of the young man was found face down and curled up in a swamp next to a neighbour’s house, in the vicinity of her stand pipe.
Residents of the community expressed alarm that he was there for more than 24 hours and no one saw him although the area is traversed by numerous persons.
When the News Room visited the location on Wednesday, (June 21, 2017), we were told that the yard in which he was found is owned by someone who does spiritual work.
The results of the post-mortem were handed to the police and communicated to the relatives of the deceased.
Smart reportedly left his relatives’ home unknowing to them during a heavy down pour on Monday morning (June 19, 2017) but no suspension was raised as two separate sides of the family thought that he was at the other’s place.
It was not until Tuesday night when his remains were discovered that relatives realised his absence from both sides was due to his death.
The eight-year-old is survived by his parents and eight other siblings.
The police are expected to return to the area to arrest persons who may be connected to the incident.
