Body of cane cutter found in home
The body of an East Canje, Berbice, cane cutter was this morning (Monday, June 26, 2017) discovered by his brother in a standing position with an electrical cable tied around his neck.
The Police in ‘B’ Division are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 38 year old Suresh Singh of Lot 18 Canefield, East Canje, Berbice.
The News Room was told that Singh resides on the upper flat of a two story wooden building while his brother and wife reside on the lower flat.
According to the woman, at about 07:00 hrs on Monday, her husband was installing an antenna to the house and ventured to the upper flat to complete the task. Upon climbing the stairs, the man noticed that the door was ajar; something which seemed strange.
It was related that the man then went into the house where he found his brother in a standing position with an electrical cable tied around his neck, under the door to the kitchen.
According to other relatives, Singh who was not married and had no children, celebrated his 38th birthday on Sunday.
He was said to be out enjoying the day with friends and returned at about 18 hours.
Singh’s body was removed from the scene after the police would have arrived and completed their examination.
The police are awaiting the result of a post mortem examination to proceed with their investigation.
