Housewife “accidentally” shot to abdomen

A 50-year-old housewife of Bougainvillea Park, East Bank Demerara, is presently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital after she was shot to her abdomen about 02:30hrs this morning (Monday, June 26, 2017).

It is alleged that the woman was accidentally shot by her husband.

Police investigation revealed that the couple returned from an outing about 02:00hrs after which the victim went to the shower, and on entering their bedroom she heard an explosion, followed by a burning sensation in her abdomen which began to bleed profusely.

The victim’s 60-year-old husband, who is a licensed holder of a handgun, alleged that he was clearing the weapon when it accidentally went off and injured his wife whom he rushed to the GPHC.

He has since been taken into custody, and his firearm lodged, while the woman’s condition has been listed as stable.
