2-year-old among six injured in Corentyne accident

The Police in Berbice are investigating the circumstances surrounding an accident involving two motor cars which resulted in a two-year-old and five others sustaining injuries.

Those injured are two year old Jaydon Rajsingh, 8-year-old Jessica Ramdeo, 12-year-old Ameesha Mohanlall, 19-year-old Omesh Somar and 27-year-old Gopaul Ramdhial who were on their way home from Mandir. The 44-year-old driver of the motor car, Gomattie Johannieall of #63 Village Corentyne Berbice was also injured.

According to information reaching the News Room, at about 11:00 hours on Sunday, (July 02, 2017), motor car PSS 5001 was proceeding north along the Crabwood Creek Public Road allegedly at a fast rate, and collided with motor car PRR 5951 which was heading out of a street and into the path of oncoming traffic.

News Room was told that following the collision, motor car PSS 5001 with its six occupants toppled and slammed into the lower flat of a two story wooden and concrete structure several feet away from where a group of men were imbibing at the time. Luckily they were unharmed.

However, one of the beams from the building was displaced.

Persons who were nearby at the time rushed to assist the injured occupants of the motor car while efforts were being made to inform the police of the accident. They arrived moments later and escorted the injured passengers to the hospital while the driver of motor car PRR 5951 was taken into custody for questioning.

The News Room learnt that the injured passengers were treated at the Skeldon Public Hospital and sent away.

Investigations are ongoing.
