Baird breaks Javelin national record

National record holder, Leslain Baird, continues to improve, setting a new national record when the Athletics Association of Guyana its National Senior Championship last weekend at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora. Baird outclassed his field and threw a distance of 73.43 metres to win the event.

Baird, who equalled his record earlier in the year with a distance of 69.97 metres, thanked all of his supporters for the achievement, including his coaches while he gave thanks to God as well. Baird has been one of the consistent seniors in the nation, hardly losing the javelin event.

However, the Guyana Defence Force athlete is way off the qualifying standard for the event at World Championships, which is 83.00 metres.
