The table where the body was found on Thursday morning, along with blood stains
The body of a 55-year-old security guard, of lot 12, Mocha, East Bank Demerara (E.B.D.) was this morning (Thursday, July 06, 2017) discovered in front of the property he was securing on Robb Street, Lacytown.
Sammy Prowell’s body was discovered at approximately 05:45hrs on Thursday.
The father of three was found sprawled on a table just outside of his place of work, Jai Matadi Ishant Variety Store at Robb and Hincks Streets, Georgetown.
Prowell is attached to the Transportation and Protection Security Agency.
Speaking with reporters, Operations Manager at the company, Mark Samuels noted that the man is placed at the location from 21:00 hrs to 5:00 hrs daily. He also disclosed that the man has only been employed with the company for three months.
Samuels added that there was no attempt to break into the store which rules out robbery as a motive.
However, during his visits to the location, the Operations Manager said he had had reason to warn Prowell about getting into any issues with the vagrants who frequent the location. He also encouraged security persons to be alert since “there has been a rise in crime.”
News Room also spoke to the owner of the business. When asked about CCTV footage since there is a camera located just above where the incident occured, he noted that the cameras are turned on during the day while his business is in operation, but is turned off at nights.
No arrests have been made thus far.
The body is presently at the Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem.
