Republic Bank reopens Water Street branch for business today

Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited has advised that its Water Street branch which was affected by an attempted robbery on Tuesday, (July 04, 2017) will be reopened for business today (Thursday, July 06, 2017).

The bank apologises for the inconvenience caused during its short closure.

Following an attempted robbery on Tuesday in which one of the bank’s Mail Clerk was involved, the branch closed its operations. While staff were traumatised, a shootout which led to the capture of two of the gunmen and death of another, also damaged parts of its property.

Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited also released a statement shortly after the incident in which it extends gratitude to the law enforcement agencies and security personnel for their alert response, which prevented the situation from escalating further.

The Bank’s Managing Director, Richard Sammy, said it has initiated trauma assistance processes for staff and shall continue to work with law enforcement officials in their investigations.
