The Guyana Police Force has issued Wanted Bulletins for two prisoners who escaped custody on Sunday afternoon (July 09, 2017).
The two men; Stafrei Hopkenson Alexander of Laing Avenue, Georgetown and Sherwin Nero a/k Sherwin Moses c/d “catty” of Friendship Buxton, ECD & Lot 74 Dennis Street, Sophia are both wanted for questioning in relation to Murder and Escaping from Lawful Custody.
On Sunday night, the force issued wanted bulletins for Uree Varswyke aka Malcolm Gordon and Mark Royden Durant aka Royden Williams C/D “Smallie”.
The men are among five who escaped from custody on Sunday during a prison riot in the capital city.
It is believed that Royden Williams, on death row for Bartica massacre was the mastermind of prison unrest which has left one prison officer dead and the prison in ashes.
Williams was February this year sentenced to death for his part in the Bartica massacre of February 17, 2008. He was convicted on seven counts of murder and five counts of manslaughter.
Director of Prisons Gladwyn Samuels said that Williams sought his freedom and plotted with another prisoner to set the prison afire and then escaped.

The Camp Street prison had 1, 018 prisoners at the time of the fire. So far, the police have only stated that five are missing but not how many are accounted for.
