One suspect in custody for McDoom murder; Twin brothers arrested in connection with East Coast robbery

The police have thus far arrested one suspect in relation to the murder of minibus driver, Tedroy James at McDoom Public Road, East Bank Demerara, contrary to what was previously reported.

The News Room previously reported that an ex member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and his twin brother were picked up for the murder.

The police subsequently clarified that the 24-year-old brothers of Agricola, East Bank Demerara were picked up for questioning in relation to a report of robbery under arms committed on the East Coast of Demerara, recently.

The Guyana Police Force however, has failed to provide the details of the robbery for which the men are being questioned.

One of the brothers, Curtis Vasconcellos is out on bail for robbery and attempted murder. He and another young man, Jason Howard led the police on a high-speed chase along the city streets in November 2016, after robbing an accountant of the Tower Suites Hotel.

Tedroy James, a route 32 minibus driver was at about 11:30 hours on Tuesday shot to his back after he attempted to drive away from robbers.

Investigation so far revealed that James who was driving minibus BTT 976 stopped to put off a passenger whom he picked up on the West Coast of Demerara, at McDoom, East Bank Demerara. As the male passenger was about to disembark the vehicle, two men, one armed with a handgun, pounced on the unsuspecting passengers in the minibus and began to rob them.

The driver on observing what was happening, attempted to drive away and was shot in his back. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival. One person was arrested.
