Three Guyanese miners have been found dead in a mining camp just off the Guyana border in neighbouring Venezuela; it is suspected that they were killed by Venezuelan nationals.

Police sources told the News Room that the three dead men were employed by a Brazilian businessman.

Information available at this time suggests that the suspect invaded the camp and demanded valuables and proceeded to open fire on the Guyanese, killing three on the spot.

Two other Guyanese were injured; one has been flown to Georgetown while the other is receiving treatment in Port Kaituma.

Among those dead are Vernon Eudoxie, an ex-policeman whose name was given as Solomon and an Excavator Operator whose name was given as Samuel. (Leroy Smith)
