Confusion erupted at the Skeldon Public Hospital after a man was rushed there with a gun shot wound to his body. He was mistaken for one of the prison escapees from the Georgetown penitentiary.

News Room understands that on Wednesday evening, a customs officer from the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) accidentally shot himself and was rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital for medical attention.

However persons who were at the health institution at the time began to panic and spread information that one of the Camp Street Prison escapees had visited the Skeldon Public Hospital for treatment.

A police source confirmed that the information circulating is completely false. The source said the enforcement officers were executing a stake-out operation when the officer accidentally discharged a round.

The News Room was told that the officer sustained a minor injury to the wrist and was treated and subsequently transferred to the Port Mourant Hospital where he is said to be in a stable condition. (Royan Abrams)
