The News Room has received information that thirteen prisoners have escaped from the Lusignan area where “troublesome” inmates of the Camp Street Jail are being held.
Several murder accused are among the thirteen inmates who escaped from the swampy area at Lusignan.
According to reports, the inmates escaped during the course of last night and early this morning.
Last week Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan at a press conference said that those who were left in the swamp area are the ones who have the potential to influence the other prisoners hence they were kept in that part of the facility while others where moved to a more comfortable area – the newly constructed area.
The names of the escapees and the circumstances under which they escaped are not yet known.
The 13 inmates managed to escape though security was heightened at that area by members of the joint services ever since the prisoners were moved to that location. (Leroy Smith)
