Prominent Berbice Attorney and former Magistrate Chandra Sohan has been arrested for obstructing justice as the sensational case in the murder of carpenter Faiyaz Narinedatt continues.

Mr Sohan was in court earlier in the day for the Preliminary Inquiry into the death of Mr Narinedatt.

The flamboyant young philanthropist Marcus Bisram has been accused of passing the instructions to five others, namely Radesh Motie, Harri Paul Parsram, Orlando Dickie, Diodath Datt, Niran Yacoob to kill Narinedatt during a party at Bisram’s between October 31 and November 1, 2016, at Number 70 Village, Berbice.

After an adjournment of the Court in the morning, Mr Sohan was arrested and was told that he was being charged for obstruction of justice in the case.

Up to news time, Mr Sohan was still being held and no discussion regarding bail has taken place.

Attorney Sanjeev Datadin, who is representing Bisram and the five men, said the actions of the Police are meant to intimidate lawyers and interfere with their work. He said that witnesses have a right to legal representation when they end up in court after the Police forces them to sign statements.
