    Lawrence Semple, 43, of Catherine Village, Mahaicony East Coast Demerara died late last night at the Georgetown Public Hospital, days after he was struck by a speeding car which was driven by a police constable.

    Semple had suffered a fractured pelvic and was in a critical state at the health institution even as doctors battled to save his life. Sources told the News Room that the man stopped responding to all treatment and succumbed.

    He was among several other persons who were rushed to the hospital after the policeman lost control of the vehicle and slammed into three pedestrians including a teenager.

    The police, Constable Jarren Huntley, who was driving the car at the time, is said to be a in a critical condition with head injuries. On Sunday afternoon, he lost control of the car after trying to negotiate an uneven section of the road and resulted in the death of Winston Small of Catherine Village, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.

    Meanwhile, the 13-year-old in the accident has been discharged from the hospital and is resting at home.
