Teenager, accomplice remanded on ‘ganja’ charge

A teenager and his alleged accomplice were remanded to prison by Magistrate Charlyn Artiga for the illegal possession of 11kg of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Roydell Williams, 18, and 23-year-old Rushanna Romalho of #51 Village, Corentyne, appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. The court heard that on Saturday August 05,2017 at #51 Village Corentyne Berbice, the duo had 11 kg of marijuana in their possession for the purpose trafficking.

News Room understands that police ranks visited the home of the accused and observed a male carrying a bulky, black plastic bag and a green bag inside the yard. Upon seeing the ranks, the man allegedly dropped the bags and made good his escape while Williams was arrested. The bags were searched by the officers in the presence of Williams and several parcels wrapped in transparent plastic were found.

Williams was later escorted to the #51 Police Station along with a female who was inside the yard at the time. While at the station, the green bag which had 10 parcels of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be marijuana, was weighed and amounted to six kilograms and the black plastic bag which contained 12 parcels of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be marijuana, amounted to 5 kilograms.

Bail was refused and the matter was transferred to the #51 Magistrate’s Court for August 23,2017.
