Update: Chinese businessman found with multiple marks of violence on body

The police in ‘D’ Division are on the hunt for the suspects in the murder and robbery of a Chinese businessman, who was found bound and gagged in his Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo home on Thursday night.

He has been identified as 44-year-old Liyan Jiang, who operated the Paradise Chinese Restaurant on the lower flat of the house. News Room understands that the suspects gained entry from a bathroom window; they broke the glass window and removed the grill.

News Room was reliably informed that the businessman was found dead in his bathroom with his hands tied and his mouth gagged. While no blood was found at the scene, multiple marks of violence was found on the man’s body and face, which indicates that he was badly beaten.

The businessman recently moved to the area from Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara; his wife resides in Soesdyke where she operates another Chinese restaurant. He leaves to mourn his wife and two young boys.

According to reports, the man’s wife asked a friend to check on her husband, since he didn’t answer the phone. The friend turned up at the house and found the lights on and the door ajar. The friend called out for the businessman but got no response. The friend suspected that something was wrong and went to the police outpost.

The man’s body was discovered by the police. News Room understands that businessman was playing games with friends online around 03:00 hrs Thursday morning when he told them to “hold on.” However, no one heard from him since.
