Students receive school supplies from Minister Broomes

Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources, Simona Broomes today paid a visit to the Community of Better Hope on the East Coast of Demerara, where she interacted with some 150 school aged children.

During her interaction with the children who were accompanied by their parents, the minister told the young people of how important it is for them to take their education seriously given the many opportunities which come from being educated.

She said that while she is aware that not everyone may excel academically, the basic schooling foundation helps with one’s reasoning power.

At today’s outreach, Simona Broomes told the gathering that her visit may appear as one of a political nature, but her presence there was on a personal note.

“I really wanted to do this because in my heart it is very important for me and for this nation to see all of you return to school in the September term. I also want to encourage your parents to give you the support you need in order to excel in your various areas of study both in primary and secondary school” Broomes told the gathering.

The meeting was held at the home of a well-known resident and community organiser who also serves the Community Policing Group in the area.

Other citizens have reportedly made requests for her also to visit their communities to assist students returning to school next month.

The new school term commences from the 4th of September.
