Update: Decomposed body yet to be identified

The Police in Berbice are making efforts to identify the badly decomposed body of a male who was found in a drainage canal at Mibicurri North Black Bush Polder on Saturday.News Room understands that the body was discovered in the drainage canal at about 06:30 hrs but was only removed from the scene at about 14:30 hrs.

According to information received, a rice farmer who was in the area ploughing his rice field, spotted the unfamiliar object in a nearby canal and alerted other rice farmers in the area who later informed the police.

At the scene this afternoon, several rice farmers flocked the area to get a glimpse of the body. Some added that it is strange that a body was found at the location as no one went missing.

However, ranks who were dispatched to the area had difficulties in having the body removed as one mortuary refused to keep the body. Later in the afternoon, with assistance from the Neighbourhood Democratic Council in the area, ranks were able to remove the body which was escorted to the Port Mourant Public Hospital awaiting identification.

Investigations are ongoing.
