NGO rewards 24 top NGSA students in East Canje
The East Canje New York Reunion is a Non-Governmental Organization that was established ten years ago. It recently held its sixth award ceremony for students who gained first, second, third and fourth place at their respective primary schools for the National Grade Six Assessment NGSA.
Last year, awards were given to the top three students but the organization has since expanded, and this time around, 24 students from the six primary schools in East Canje Berbice received monetary awards for their outstanding performances. The fourth and third places received US$100, second place US$125 and first place received US$150.
According to a representative of the East Canje New York Reunion, Anil Beharry, the organization plans to expand every year as he believes in motivating the children.
“I am proud to be a part of it because I am a person who believes in charity and I am a person who believes in motivating our kids because our kids are the future of tomorrow, and we were all kids one day and we know how important it is to do these type of things because probably we didn’t have these opportunity that these kids are having, and we still try to be good citizens of this country so I hope these kids can excel and make Guyana a better place to benefit all of us,” Beharry said.
Recipient from the Cumberland Primary School, John Ramdin disclosed that he is delighted to be awarded for his hard work at the NGSA and that he intends to use the money to purchase back to school supplies as he prepares to attend the New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary School with 510 marks.
The East Canje New York Reunion in based in the United States and is funded through several fundraising activities.
