Weapons, ganja, phones found at Camp Street prison

A joint operation carried out early Tuesday morning at the Georgetown prison at Camp Street uncovered a small portion of cannabis, three cell phones along with three Digicel sim cards, four lighters and 20 improvised weapons.

The joint services search also found three razor blades, the News Room was reliably informed. According to reports, the operation was executed between 06:15 hrs and 08:40 hrs on the entire brick prison.

On August 03, a search of the Lusignan, Timehri and New Amsterdam Prisons uncovered a number of prohibited items and drugs. An investigation was launched into the discovery of a quantity of drugs and cell phones at the Timehri Prison and according to Prison Director (ag), Gladwin Samuels, a prison officer was at the center of the investigation.
