Cop under arrest for death of pedestrian


A Police Constable attached to the Leonora Police Station, West Coast Demerara, Quincy Holder, is under close arrest following the death of a 57-year-old woman whom he struck down on Tuesday morning (August 15) on the Success Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

Dead is Pulbattie Ramotar, a domestic worker who resided at Success, ECD; she died while receiving treatment at the Surgical Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital at 04:30hrs Thursday morning.

Investigations revealed that about 08:00hrs, motor car PVV 8233 owned and driven by Holder of Supply, Mahaica, ECD, was proceeding east along the northern carriageway of Success Public Road, when the pedestrian, suddenly ran across the road from south to north into the path of the vehicle and was struck down.

She was picked up in an unconscious condition and rushed to the GPHC where she was admitted and subsequently died. A post-mortem examination will be done tomorrow. A breathalyzer test was administered to the policeman and no alcohol was detected in his breath. Several statements were taken from eye witnesses.
