The Guyana Fire Service and the Guyana Police Force are investigating a fire that left a West Coast Berbice man dead on Thursday August 17,2017.

He has been identified as 52-year-old Bisram Baldeoram of Cotten Tree Village, West Coast Berbice. News Room understands that moments before the fire, the man and his wife had a heated argument which turned physical at around 10:00hrs. Following the argument, the wife left the house and went to relatives in Georgetown.

Reports indicate that Baldeoram then ventured to the public road where he met friends and informed them that he will burn the house and kill himself, however his friends did not take him seriously. It was moments later that smoke was seen emanating from the kitchen area and subsequently the entire house engulfed in flames.

Neighbours tried to extinguish the blaze but the man had placed furniture at the door to prevent anyone from entering the building. The Guyana Fire Service was summoned to the scene but by that time the one storey wooden structure was almost destroyed.
