A 24-year-old man on Monday appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, charged with escaping lawful custody while under arrest at the Kuru-Kuru police outpost, Linden/Soesdyke Highway, for a child sex offence.

Cleveland King of Kuru-Kuru, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on August 17, 2017 at Kuru-Kuru Police Outpost, while being a prisoner in lawful custody on a criminal charge of engaging or facilitating in a child sex offence, he escaped.

Police Prosecutor, Adoni Innis objected to bail based on the seriousness and nature of the charge. According to the Prosecutor, on the day in question King was arrested by ranks and taken to the Kuru-Kuru Police Outpost after an allegation of him having sexual relation with an underage girl was leveled against him.

The prosecutor said he ran out of the outpost but was later arrested. He was remanded to prison until August 28, 2017.
