A 94-year-old man, accused of conspiring to forge a transport 14 years ago, appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Fitz Rupert Lewis of First Street, Cummings Lodge denied the charge which alleged that between November 1, 2003 and November 30, 2003 with intent to defraud, he conspired with others to forge transport 380 of 1981.

According Lewis’ attorney, Roger Yearwood, his client was arrested early Tuesday morning by ranks of the Guyana Police Force and was told that he was wanted at the Brickdam Police Station.

The attorney further noted that the police investigation was pending since 2003.   During that year, Lewis was arrested and later placed on station bail with his passport lodged. However, his station bail was returned along with his passport in 2003.

Police Prosecutor Arwin Moore made no objection to the elderly man being released on bail but requested that reporting conditions be attached. The Magistrate released Lewis on $50,000 bail and adjourned the matter until August 30, 2017.
