A power outage caused the opening night of the Guinness Cage futsal tournament to be postponed to Tuesday (August 29) at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

Three Peat Promotions, who are the organisers of the event, had set a start time of 20:00h on Friday; however, they were greeted by darkness at the National Gymnasium that is surprisingly without a generator. It meant the teams could not take to the court, delaying the start of the competition.

Nevertheless, the first of a kind tournament will commence on Tuesday with 16 games as organisers promise a thrilling night of action.

The tournament will start with 32 teams and after the first two nights of action will be reduced to just 16. There will be a group stage after the first two nights of action followed by the knockout stage just before the final on September 16.

Over $800,000 in prize monies and trophies will be up for grabs with the winner set to receive $400,000 and the championship trophy, while second, third and fourth placed finishers will take home $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 along with trophies respectively.
