Plane found, fate of pilot unknown

The Air Services Limited aircraft, which went missing this morning, has been discovered near the Kaieteur Falls gorge and troops are currently on their way to the crash site.

The fate of the pilot and the extent of the damages are unknown at this point.

The Cessna aircraft, bearing registration number 8R-GFM, sent off an ELT (emergency locator transmitter) signal just after 9:00hrs, a few miles from Mahdia.

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has since launched OPERATION HAWK EYE, a search and rescue mission, to assist the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in locating an Air Services Limited CESSNA 206 aircraft.

The aircraft, piloted by ASL’s Captain Imran Khan, was en route from Chi Chi to Mahdia where it was expected to arrive at 08:47hrs.

Troops from the GDF 31 Special Forces Squadron are involved in the operation.
