Driver dies after turning into path of oncoming vehicle

A driver is in custody assisting with investigations and another is now deceased after the motor cars which they were driving collided on the Land of Canaan Public Road, East Bank Demerara at approximately 04:25hrs this morning.

A police report stated that motor car HC 8204 driven by a 33 year-old resident of Forshaw Street, Queenstown, Georgetown, was proceeding north along the western carriageway of the Land of Canaan Public Road when motor car PGG 8696 which was proceeding  in the opposite direction suddenly made a U-Turn into his path. The vehicles collided.

Motor car PGG 8696 was being driven by Feroze Khan, 50 years, of Yarrowkabara, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.

As a result of the impact, Khan was taken out of his vehicle in an unconscious state and rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body is presently at the Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem.

A breathalyzer test was administered to the driver of HC 8204 and no trace of alcohol was detected in his breath.

He is in custody and is assisting with the investigation.
