The Courts 10k and fitness run was launched on Wednesday morning at the entity’s Main Street, Georgetown, branch where it was disclosed $2 million has been invested to successfully host the event in collaboration with the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG).

Guyana’s best distance athletes will converge on October 1 to take part in the seventh edition of the event, which is expected to see top distance athletes Cleveland Forde and Euleen Josiah-Tanner defend their respective titles.

At the press launch on Wednesday, Marketing Manager of Courts, Pernell Cummings, noted that the establishment is happy to contribute to the development of society through sport.

“Courts is happy to be onboard with this event again; we are happy to support athletics in Guyana and the overall fitness of Guyanese public and we want to thank the AAG for helping us to make this event a success,” Cummings stated.

President of the AAG, Aubrey Hutson, noted the importance of the event towards the development of the athletes and the sport.

“This fits into our development programme throughout the year and it helps with the preparation of our athletes for the coming season and we have seen the benefits from this event that we put on our calendar every year because we believe Courts will always support development,” Hutson noted.

With Forde and Tanner being the two dominant names since the event’s inception Cummings threw out a light challenge to all athletes and the staff of Courts ahead of the race.

“We know Forde and Tanner have been dominant over the years, but I challenge all athletes to break this and I challenge the staff of Courts to come out and try to defeat me as I prepare to better my records from last year,” Cummings chided.

The event will add a golden mile to the proceedings for children between ages 10 and 15, while the event will take its regular route, starting and ending in front of Courts Main Street, Georgetown, branch.

Registration will close on September 23, while race time is 06:00h on October 1.
