Mason remanded for murder at ‘Back to School’ party
Ivor Thom, 44, appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, charged with the murder of 30-year-old Vishram Mohabir, who was stabbed to death on August 27, 2017 at Williamsburg, Corentyne Berbice.
Thom, a mason, also from Williamsburg, was not required to plead to the charge and was remanded to prison until September 12, 2017 when he is slated to appear at the Albion Magistrate’s Court.
Mohabir and his 15-year-old brother, Kunal Singh were attending a ‘Back to School’ party on the day in question when the incident took place.
The News Room was informed that the brothers allegedly attacked the suspect, who retaliated by stabbing them. The teen was stabbed several times on the hands and Mohabir was stabbed twice to the neck.
A police patrol which was close by picked up both brothers ad rushed them to the
Port Mourant Public Hospital where the teen was treated and sent away and the
brother was transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he died
moments later.
