Corona Invitational football down to last eight teams

The Corona Invitational football tournament will continue this weekend with four match-ups set to decide the final four teams at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Bourda.

On Friday (September 1), the opening match of the quarter-final round will be Camptown FC against Northern Rangers in a match that should be dominated by the mid-field.

While Northern Rangers have not lost a match as yet, both sides play well out of their mid-field and this should allow the game to flow smoothly. Both teams have done just enough to get wins, and the team that might pull of the win will probably be the squad to score first in the match.

However, Northern Rangers have been in form and should be the most likely squad to move onto the semi-finals. The final match-up on Friday will see Western Tigers FC playing against Pele FC.

This should be a comfortable win for Western as they are arguably the team to beat in the tournament. Since Pele have shown flashes of poor defence, their inconsistency on that side of the pitch might just cause them the match.

Meanwhile, looking ahead to Sunday, Santos FC and Police FC will kick off the action with the most likely winner being Santos.

Police have had their moments in the tournament and have shown the ability to score in bunches, but the balance of the Santos side should be able to overcome the lawmen whose style is based on attacking football.

The final match of the quarter-final round will pit host side GFC against Riddim Squad. This might just be the most evenly matched game of the quarter-final round with both sides playing well in the tournament.

However, advantage will go to the home side and their ability to score over a Riddim Squad unit that attacks on the counter. Action on both nights will start at 19:00h, with the second game commencing at 21:00h.
