Drunk driver kills two in Cummings Lodge accident

A motorcyclist was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital and a pillion rider later succumbed to her injuries after colliding with a motorcar at about 03:30hrs this morning.

News Room was told that Hire car, HC 4097, driven by 25-year- old Mark Cameron, was proceeding east along the northern side of the Cummings Lodge railway embankment, East Coast Demerara “without lights, at a fast rate” while Motorcycle, CE 9653 driven by Denis Ross and pillion rider, 19-year-old Jewel Pestran was proceeding west along the northern side of the road, also at a fast rate, when the two collided.

As a result, the motorcyclist and the pillion rider fell on the road surface and sustained injuries. They were both rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Ross was pronounced dead on arrival.

Pestran of lot 99 Bel Air street, Albouystown, Georgetown succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at about 05:07hrs this morning.

The driver underwent a breathalyzer test and it was found that he was above the prescribed limit. He was placed into custody and the vehicles were Lodge to be examined. Investigations are in progress.
