A Local tech company has teamed up with the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company, through the Mobile Money application to afford Guyanese an easier way to pay for goods and services.

Intellect Storm will be launching Paymentsgy in September. One of Intellect Storm’s partners, Ronson Gray explained that the platform allows users to purchase items and services using their mobile phones, all that is needed is internet connection.

Users will be required to download the mobile application and sign up, after which you will be required to attach your MMG account or sign up for one within the app. Once approval is granted, “you can then fund your wallet and start making purchases,” Gray related.

Speaking about the origin of the product, Gray pointed out that purchasing items online has always been a challenge in Guyana and thus a solution was created.

“We’ve always noticed that conducting business in Guyana and even accessing some services in Guyana, there’ve always been limitations where persons would have had to visit business places to do various things.”

He pointed out that one of the most tedious things persons have had to do in the past is travel to movie theaters to purchase tickets before they are sold out and return to work/home ahead of the movies. With the app, Paymentsgy, a ticket for the Princess Theaters can be purchased online.

So far, a number of businesses in the retail and entertainment industries have signed on to use the service, for example a movie ticket can be purchased using the app. The app cannot facilitate international transactions at this point but that is something which is being looked at.
