The body of 7-year-old Jayleena Titus, who went missing after playing in the water near the Guyana Marriott Hotel at Kingston, Georgetown on August 26, washed up at the Ruimzeight foreshore, West Coast Demerara last week.

Her mother, Onecia Henry told News Room this morning that she positively identified the child’s body, which is partially decomposed but recognizable. She told News Room that the body was found last Thursday by a security guard at a koker at Rumizeight and taken to the Ezekiel funeral parlour. However, the family was  not informed until late Monday afternoon.

The child was with her father, Richard Titus and her 10-year-old brother at the seawalls next to the Marriott hotel when she was swept away by the waves. Her brother tried in vain to save her. The father had told News Room last week that since the beginning of the July-August vacation, he would take his children to the seashore in the afternoons to play while he himself goes fishing.

The distraught family has been searching for the child since the incident occurred and the mother had noted that she and her son have been unable to eat and sleep.

Recalling the last time she saw her daughter, Henry had told News Room that, “the last word for me with she is ‘Mommy I love you.’ That was the last thing she tell me and kiss me, like three times in a period before she leave. Three times she come and kiss me, kiss me.”
