Taxi driver banned from driving for 12 months

A repeat ‘Driving under the influence of alcohol’ offender, was today suspended from driving for the next twelve months and also fined $7,500 Magistrate, Christel Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.

Taxi driver, 58-year-old Solomon Stoby of Mongrippa Hill, Bartica was first charged on February 18, 2017. He pleaded guilty and was fined $7,500 and his license was endorsed.

According to a police report, on September 01, 2017, Stoby who owns and operates motor car HC 2999, was stopped at Fifth Avenue, Bartica during a routine stop and search operation.

“The slurred speech and the strong smell of alcohol in the driver’s breath, caused an officer to administer a breathalyzer test which confirmed their suspicion; he had .122 micrograms. The legal limit is .035 micrograms,” the police report noted.
