Foul play suspected as man dies in ECD fire
Sean Prince, a 39-year-old father of one died at his Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara home in the wee hours of Thursday as the building erupted in flames.
Police believe that there was some level of foul play involved in the incident following reports from residents that they heard a scuffle, followed by an explosion and then there was the fire.
The two storied concrete house was completely gutted; Sean lived upstairs while his cousin lived downstairs. There are reports that the two men had disagreements over several issues for some time now.
News Room was told that Sean, who does not spend much time with friends because of his hectic schedule at work, showed up on Wednesday and decided to take a light drink with friends at a nearby shop and that lasted for several hours before he retreated to his home.
His friends are disputing that he might have left a stove or anything unattended that could have started the fire and according them; he was sober enough to ride his bicycle home unhindered after consuming alcohol.
When the News Room visited the scene, there were still several persons who lined the streets and expressed disbelief and shock at the man’s death. They maintained that his death has more to it and urged the detectives to dig deep and search wide until there is closure.
