Lance Corporal charged with assaulting lover

A 36-year-old Lance Corporal attached to the Guyana Police Force on Friday appeared before City Magistrate, Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on three charges of assaulting his lover.

Randy Martin, a father of two, who lives with his wife at West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, Georgetown denied all of the charges.

Particulars of the first charge alleged that between April 1 and April 18, 2017 at South Ruimveldt Park, Martin unlawfully assaulted Cassandra Wickham. It is further alleged that Martin between April 1 and April 13 at South Ruimveldt, made use of threatening behavior towards Wickham.

Lastly, Martin is accused of assaulting Wickham on April 17 at the Kitty Seawalls, Georgetown.

According to reports, Martin is married and was having an outside relationship with Wickham. However, they broke up and on the dates mentioned in the charge, Martin abused Wickham. He also allegedly threatened to kill her and brandished a gun. It is also alleged that the officer held Wickham by the throat and forcefully kissed her.

 

Prosecutor Sanj Singh made no objection to bail. Magistrate Latchman released the lance Corporal on $30,000 bail for each of the charges. The matter was transferred to City Magistrate Leron Daly for September 25, 2017.
