Labourer granted bail for cocaine charge
A 39-year-old labourer was on Friday released on $30,000 bail by Magistrate Judy Latchman for cocaine trafficking.
During his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, Quacy Moore denied that on September 07, 2017 at Bourda Market, he had 1 gram of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The unrepresented man told the court that the alleged drug was not found in his possession neither did he have knowledge of it.
Police prosecutor, Shawn Gonsalves objected to Moore being released on bail on the grounds that no special reason was given to the court. However, Gonsalves pointed out that the analyst report on the drug is still outstanding and it would be another two months before it is made available due to the current backlog at the Forensic Analysis Lab.
The Magistrate overruled the prosecution’s objection and released Moore on $30,000 bail. The matter was adjourned to September 25, 2017 and transferred to Magistrate Leron Daly.
