West Demerara trounce East Bank by innings and 182 runs

On the back of a commanding batting and bowling performance, West Demerara trounced East Bank by an innings and 182 runs at the conclusion of the second round of the Jaguars Franchise League Three-day competition on Monday.

Playing at the Tuschen ground, West Demerara piled up 494-7 declared in their lone innings in response to East Bank’s 171, before dismissing the opposition for 141 second time around.

The convincing victory was orchestrated by centurions Tagenarine Chanderpaul (176*) and Tevin Imlach (103), while Richie Loaknauth with an eight-wicket match-haul led the bowling effort.

East Bank 171 (Sherfance Rutherford 67, Ronaldo Ali Mohamed 35, Darshan Persaud 31*, Richie Loaknauth 5-46, Daniel Basdeo 2-22) and 141 (Ronaldo Ali Mohamed 49, Vishual Singh 36, Ershad Ali 32, Romario Shepherd 3-50, Richie Loaknauth 3-32, Akshaya Persaud 2-12) v West Demerara 494-7 declared (Tagenarine Chanderpaul 176*, Tevin Imlach 103, Romario Shepherd 55, Akshaya Persaud 43, Malcolm Hubbard 40, Ronaldo Ali Mohamed 2-76, Darshan Persaud 2-101, Totaram Bishun 2-79).

In the other games, Essequibo defeated West Berbice by 309 runs, Georgetown beat Lower Corentyne by five wickets and Upper Corentyne and East Coast played to a draw.

Round three of the competition will start on September 15 with East Bank taking on Essequibo at Everest, West Demerara challenging West Berbice at Tuschen, East Coast battling Georgetown at Lusignan and Lower Corentyne going up against Upper Corentyne at Albion.
