Miner shot as bandits invade mining camp

A team comprising ranks of the Joint Services was dispatched to Region One on Monday, to investigate an alleged armed robbery committed on several persons, including an 18-year-old miner of Falls Top, North West District (NWD).

According to a police report, at about 14:00 hrs on Monday at Cowana Backdam, Five Stars, NWD, the teen miner attempted to escape from the bandits after they relieved him of his gold chain, but was shot in the left leg.

Police said the miner is in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital. According to the report, two of the suspects spoke fluent English whilst the others spoke a foreign language.
