BK wins $8M contract to construct Well in Reg.1

BK International has been awarded an $8.75M contract for the construction of a Well at Koko in Region One (Barima Waini), which will provide some 400 persons with potable water for the first time.

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) in a statement noted it is anticipated that persons from the community will be employed to contribute their skills, knowledge and efforts of the community towards the success of the project which is being funded by the Government of Guyana.

With a timeline for the completion of works set for December 2017, the project is scheduled to begin this month. GWI said the contractor is in the process of preparing equipment so as to mobilise to the project site, after which works will commence.

The scope of works for the project requires the contractor to complete the drilling of the well to meet GWI’s specifications, supply all materials necessary for the completion of the well and implement suitable techniques to ensure the sustenance of the hole before, during and after drilling.

The contracting firm is also required to drill, ream and install all the materials to successfully complete the well as per design. The required depth of the well is 80 meters.

Thereafter, the contractor will test pump and disinfect the well to the satisfaction of GWI’s Water Quality Department, which is to ensure the water produced is safe for human consumption.

According to GWI, the project will cater for the construction of a pump house, well head, discharge pipes, connections to the water distribution network and the development of the entire well site, among other ancillary works.
